The ranch is open all year round, rain or shine. An appointment or reservation is required, but we can often handle short notice requests for rides, so please call or text for availability 360-367-1201

Our calendar includes special ride events sponsored by riding clubs. The ranch is often available to rent and haul
horses for rider participation in these events.

January
New Years Day Ride and Potluck (Jan 1st)
is an easy ride for novice or beginning riders. We usually join one of the local clubs
affiliated with Back Country Horseman of Washington for this ride. Riding time is between
two and four hours. After the ride we stay to talk with other riders and join in on a
potluck meal. This is an all day experience.
Each year the ride can be held in a different location. In recent years, it has been held
at Taylor Mountain (near Hobart) and Mudd Mountain (near Enumclaw). Both areas offer a
nice ride on fairly level trails and gravel roads through mixed second growth forest.

Candy Cane Treat Rides
daily through mid January - the Candy Cane Treat Rides are
fun easy rides held on trails at the ranch. Candy canes and other holiday themed treats
can easily be collected from horseback. These rides are great entertainment for riders
of all ages.

Mossyrock Mountain Man Prize Ride (usually late February)
is an easy ride for beginning to intermediate riders. A muddy trail winds up a long
hillside to reveal amazing views above Lake Mayfield with a 360 degree view of the
surrounding snow covered mountains. Riding time is about three hours. After
the ride, we check to see if we have won a prize and eat a warm lunch prepared by the
Mossyrock Riders sponsoring the ride. This is an all day experience.

Scatter Creek Orienteering Ride (usually early March)
is for advanced riders only with approval of ranch management. Ride time can be
over six hours. This is a sport ride using compass and map skills to locate stations
within a designated area.
The ride takes place on nice trails and gravel roads through second growth forest near
Rochester. But the length of the ride and the competitive nature of many of the other
participants requires horse handling skills. This is an all day experience.

Rides are fun easy rides held on trails at the ranch. Riders enjoy a trail along
which they can easily collect charm pieces from horseback and put together a charm
bracelet (girls) or charm pin (boys) in a theme of their choosing. These rides
are great entertainment for riders of all ages, but especially for special occassions
such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

South Seattle Saddle Club Prize Ride (usually early May)
is an easy ride along the Cedar River Walk/Bike Trail. Considering the disrespect
the walkers and bicyclist often give the horsemen, we haul straight to the Danville
Georgetown trailhead and have a luxurious ride through well maintained trails in
second growth forests. This is a great ride for beginners. Riding time is between
two and four hours, or whenever we get hungry.
After the ride, we haul over to the clubhouse and partake in the potluck and prizes.

Lewic Co BCHW Prize Ride at Burnt Ridge (usually early May)
is a beautiful ride through deep old second growth forests near Onalaska. This is a
great ride if the ground is dry, but very difficult on the horses if it has been
wet weather. We will only ride this ride in better weather when the trail is good
for beginners. Riding time is about three hours.
After the ride, we check to see if we have won a prize and enjoy the great meal
provided by the club members. This is an all day experience.

Alpine Riders BCHW Prize Ride at Joe Watt (usually mid May)
is the first ride in eastern WA and the warmth and blooming of the spring flowers make
this ride very memorable. Near Thorp, the trail will wind through flower filled hillsides
and is a great ride for beginners. Riding time is three to four hours.
After the ride, we enjoy the company of the other ride participants and wait for the
prizes to be awarded while eating a lunch prepared fresh on the food wagon grill. This
is an all day experience.

Roslyn Rider Prize Ride at Roslyn (Sun. of Memorial Day weekend)
is the another great ride on eastern WA trails winding through grassy slopes with lots of spring
flowers. There are some great views overlooking the town and valley below. This is a good ride
for beginners. Riding time is about three hours.

EWQHA Prize Ride at Easton (usually early June)
is wonderful ride around Kachess Lake and Easton State Park. The trails wind through
a variety of forests from older second growth to old growth to clearcuts. Often the
meadows beneath the powerlines will surprise us with fresh wild strawberries. This
is a fun ride for beginners. Riding time is about three hours.

Ellensburg Rodeo Posse Prize Ride at Cle Elum (usually mid June)
is a view filled ride on the ridges above the town. The trails wind through grassy meadows
beneath pine trees. Lots of wildflowers and occasional wildlife can also be found. This is
a good ride for beginners. Riding time is three to four hours.

Pierce County BCHW Prize Ride (usually mid July) is a beautiful
ride through older second growth forests near Elbe. This is an excellent ride for beginning
riders if the weather is dry, intermediate if wet and muddy. There are also recent logging
areas where the bushes of wild berries are heavy with tantalizing fruit.Riding time is three
to four hours.

Buckhorn Range BCHW Prize Ride near Sequim (usually late Aug)
is a ride with added attractions. Located at the new Layton Hill Horse Camp off of Chicken Coop
Road, new trails are slowly being carved out of a second growth forest on the hillsides
above the camp. The trails are excellent for beginning riders, but there is a long steep
hill for the horses to climb to get to the viewpoint that overlooks puget sound inlets.
Riding time is three to four hours.
This ride is a all day/two day experience with camp over. After the ride on Saturday, we
at lunch and enjoy the company of the other ride participants while waiting for the prizes
to be awarded. Saturday evening is a potluck and riders can continue socializing or try their
horsemanship skills on an obstacle course. On Sunday before returning to the ranch, we will
include a three to four hour exploration ride through the nearby Miller Penninsula State
Park where trails wander through towering Madronna trees.

Silver Spurs Halloween Fun Ride (usually late Oct)
is a great ride through second growth forests near Belfair.
This is an excellent ride for beginning riders. Riding time is about three hours.
After the ride, we enjoy the company of the other ride participants and wait for the
prizes to be awarded while eating lunch. Note that there is also a costume contest;
costume for horse and rider is optional. This is an all day experience.

BCHW Wine Ride (last Sat of Oct) is a fun ride
through the wine grape orchards in Zillah Washington. The trail leads from
winery to winery offering wine tasting at each. Only riders that are at least
21 years of age are eligible to ride in this event.
Note that this ride is the same weekend as the ride above, we will attend whichever
has the greater interest.
This is a two day experience. Only persons available all weekend and interested
in a sleepover should consider this ride. This will be a fun ride for beginners.
Riding time is two to three hours on Saturday and will include several stops.
After the wine ride on Saturday, there is a horse and rider costume contest. We will
relax and enjoy the company of the other ride participants and enjoy a steak dinner.
We will camp Saturday night and ride again on Sunday before returning to the ranch.
Costume for horse and rider is optional.

Trick n Treat Rides

Turkey Trot Ride (Sat after Thanksgiving) is an easy ride
for novice or beginning riders. Traditionally this ride was held out of the City Hall
Salloon in Cumberland, but in recent years the location has changed several times.
We will partake in any organized gathering for this date or pick a nice local trail to
provide you with a nice ride on fairly level trails. Riding time will be about three
hours and will include the opportunity to bring a packed lunch or stop somewhere after
the ride and have a meal. This is an all day experience.
